CALIU MILANO is a Milanese brand created by Gemma Margalef Soldevila, born in Barcelona (ESP), who has lived and worked in Milan since 2003.
Caliu Milano specializes in the creation of custom and bespoke lampshades, handcrafting each piece with passion and artisanal care. In the Milan workshop, tradition and creativity blend to give life to objects of rare beauty and personality.
Caliu Milano's goal is to combine design and sustainability. Our attention to the environment is reflected in every stage of production: we use exclusively recyclable and non-toxic materials, carefully selected to minimize environmental impact.
The yarns for weaving the lampshades come from regenerated cotton, recovered from surplus stock of the best Italian textile companies, helping to give new life to quality materials. The frames, made of iron by the most skilled Lombard artisans, are designed to last over time.
With every creation, Caliu Milano aims to offer not only an exclusive product, but also a concrete commitment towards a more sustainable future.
Our lampshades are the result of an ancient Mexican weaving technique from the 1940s, which we have expertly adapted to create contemporary design objects.
The process consists of entirely covering the structure of the lampshade, hand-weaving with a thin thread. Through a series of special knots, we fasten the threads precisely and securely,
The result is a unique lampshade, made exclusively with two materials: iron for the structure and thread for the weaving.
Each piece is an unrepeatable handcrafted work, where traditional technique merges with innovation, creating an elegant, eco-friendly, and durable design.
