CALIU MILANO is a Milan-based brand created by Gemma Margalef Soldevila, born in Barcelona (ESP), who has been living and working in Milan since 2003.
Caliu Milano specializes in the creation of custom-made, bespoke lampshades, crafting each piece by hand with passion and artisanal care. In the Milan workshop, tradition and creativity come together to bring to life objects of rare beauty and character.
Design and sustainability
Our goal is to combine design and sustainability. Our concern for the environment is reflected in every stage of production: we use only recyclable and non-toxic materials, carefully selected to minimize environmental impact.
The yarns for weaving lampshades come from regenerated cotton, recovered from surpluses of the best Italian textile companies, helping to give new life to quality materials. The looms, made of iron by Lombardy's most experienced craftsmen, are designed to last.
With each creation, Caliu Milano aims to offer not only an exclusive product, but also a concrete commitment to a more sustainable future.
Technique
Our lampshades are the result of an ancient weaving technique from the 1940s, which we have carefully adapted to create contemporary design objects.
The process involves covering the entire structure of the lampshade, hand-weaving with a fine thread. Through a series of special knots, we secure the threads precisely and safely, without using any glue or toxic fixatives, ensuring a completely natural product free from harmful substances.
The result is a unique lampshade, made using only two materials: iron for the structure and thread for the weaving. Each piece is an irreplaceable handmade work, where traditional technique merges with innovation, creating a design that is elegant, eco-friendly, and durable.
